Expanding epoxy foam?

Post by piperdown »

Was watching a video on a guy running a test between the PU expanding foam and an epoxy expanding foam. The epoxy foam took a lot longer to expand but seemed to be a lot cleaner than the PU stuff.

Anyone worked with it before? Looks like it adds buoyancy.

I think I fell asleep partway through this one so not sure if it is the video you were referring to.

Yep, that's the one.
Was curious if the properties are similar, specifically the buoyancy question.

If I am reading the data sheet on the foam correctly it absorbs water in a 48 hour window.

What page was that on the data sheet?

Go where it has foam in the right column and then click on where it states "download this" scroll down to the bottom. Here is the link:

I had downloaded the data sheet http://www.sicomin.com/datasheets/product-pdf188.pdf but don't see a reference in the 13 pages to that.

It sounds like they did a lot of testing on their product and are not afraid to share the data. It seems the stuff could be used in the place of plywood used as the core or anywhere else you would want a thick, hard structure from a mold.

Looks like the water absorption is listed at less than 1% by weight, which in itself is kind of meaningless without similar data to compare with on whatever polyurethane foam is also being considered.
