Hi,
I have an aluminium mast which weighs in at 10 KG with fittings and dressed with the lines at the mast head. I can raise and lower the mast with the also aluminium shear legs I made myself. On my first sail yesterday I found out that mounting the shear legs takes too long and is a bit awkward even that the raising is done afterwards in a minute. I am thinking of buying a carbon mast of the same length instead which should bring the weight down by more than half and then I could raise and lower the mast easier just by hand. Has anyone an idea if this is advisable or owns a carbon mast and can give me some tips ? Do you think I can epoxy glue the aluminium cum plastic mast head to the carbon mast ? I have heard aluminium or stainless steel fittings riveted to carbon mast is not advisable ?
Sorry for the idiotic topic title, I wanted to write Carbon Mast for my Adelie 14 ? only.
Greetings from Karl
