GV10 transom knee question

Post by MikeyGnz »

Hi Evan and Jacques

Since I am boxing in the rear of my GV10 to form flotation chambers I will need cleats on the rear of the side panels and the transom. If I beef up the cleats and make them a bit wider than needed as per the photo below will I still need to install the transom knees?

I will be installing a clamping board the full width of the transom that will go from the top down to the cleat level and will have 30mm of wooden rub rail along the top of the side panels.

Mock-up below with some scrap. Actual cleats will be about 40mm wide at the aft bulkhead (left hand side of photo) with the width increasing to about 150mm where it joins the transom cleat.
