Foam cleats~how to

Post by fallguy1000 »

So, I use foam cleats quite a bit.

First I cut a 45 on a straight core offcut.

I try for a total of 2" or about 1.25" of flat and 0.75" of angle.

Then cut them to length. I cover the entire cleat with a fairly standard 2.1 to 1 cabosil to epoxy mix and apply.

Then I tape them so they don't move.

Next day, I apply a 4" tape the them and the applied surface.

Pics today of the cleat in profile and applied on two sides of a bench.

I just realized one of the cleats is a bit long.. still wet, will cut shorter.

Overview of cleat needs.

If you look close; you'll see I used a lot of glass scraps to laminate the back of the bench. (Green vertical lines)

A job this size creates a LOT of offcuts and throwing them all away would be evil. I generate quite a bit of waste already.
