HELP!! Anybody got a tip on removing rubber cement

Post by Capt UB »

Sanding with 60 is working, I'm letting the paper do the work, not pressing down hard. But I have gone through a box already.

Anybody got a tip on removing rubber cement from epoxy covered plywood?

I will need to recoat the plywood in some areas, so can't use something that will soak into the plywood and stop epoxy or paint from sticking.

Thanks,
Bob

I’ve used MEK and acetone.

My favorite option is fire. Just easier. Probably not an option for you.

Nothing helpful except don't add vinyl flooring to a boat...

Tried acetone, have not tried MEK....

This stuff is hard as a rock now.

Well... MEK will remove enough brain cells that you’ll forget how painful sanding is. Just don’t drive for a bit after using it.

There is nothing like xylene...… for removal of brain cells...!

I don’t know... I’ve seen relatives sitting around the garage with some “liquid courage” sippin and chattin. Then one of them would remember “we’re supposed to be working on that there engine!” One would pour their cup on some caked on grease which would vanish. Another would pour his cup on a rusty nut and presto! it would come loose. And when the dang thing wouldn’t start another cup in the carb and that motor would scream like an FS17 pushed by a 90hp Yamaha (I think that was the crazy setup on here).

Hard to beat granny and her corn mash when you need to not remember anything from the last year or so... Xylene and MEK are distant second places.

3m adhesive remover is available on amazon and works wonders. It's a mix of xylene and other solvents, so just xylene may be just as good, but I know this stuff works.
