Thanks All. Yes, Tom, I'll get that info soon.

One point of clarification - the boat will motor will run up to the redline as currently propped. I wasn't clear about that in my last post. It just happened that we were going 36 mph at around 5200 rpm. We could have gone faster but were in a choppy area and didn't want to push it. The boat currently has a 17P Mercury Rev4. It's not bad, but I think we can do better with a little more grip.

No rush guy, I agree the Rev4 looks to be made for larger offshore boats. I would look at the Trophy Plus. It seems to have more lift and holding power. When you talk to the dealer ask them about cup and rake. The more cup the more holding power and lift, this makes the Trophy Plus sound like it has more cup. Then ask about the type of rake the better the water flows over the prop and stays on the prop improving thrust. Progressive rake is most common on modern props. The Trophy Plus also comes with the 9mm PVS system which lets you get up on plane faster. You can read about it here. https://samerwebapp01apncus01.azureedge ... system.pdf A lot of bass and other high performance props have these systems in there props. It is a well proven method to help in acceleration in shallow water situations.

I do not know what diameter your current Rev 4 is but 1" in diameter is 2.5" in pitch. So if your Rev 4 is 15 x 17 then you will want a Trophy Plus 14 x 19 or 20 to start with since your boat seemed to do fine with the Rev 4., until I get your weights I hate that Merc does not give diameter on there props. Makes choosing one of there's almost impossible for me. But I do my best with you guys help. :D

Lots of things go into the calcs, sometimes I get it right on sometimes I am off by 1 pitch or so. But I will do my best for you.

Turned out great and great job, I went through 3 props and finally got her right. I just repowered with a brand new 90 Etech and love it. One thing about these boats is they are purpose boat (running skinny) there is always a compromise in speed. Mine runs out now at 36 loaded 3 persons and gear at 6000 rpm. Can't wait to see pics in action...

How does she ride?
Does it slide?

Notice the cup on my prop. No slip no slide, just pure grip.

Explorer beautiful prop. What brand name, diameter and pitch is it. What motor are you running it on. I assume you have a jack plate? Thanks. It looks a lot like a Power Tech PFS triple cup.

Explorer - congrats on the new motor. Looks great! 36 is fast.

The boat rides great and handles excellent. The only time I don't like the handling is at idle speed. You essentially have no steering when coming into a boat slip. Otherwise, no issues.

I have a powertech PFL on order and we're looking into having them make a new prop that is not currently in production. The team over there has been very helpful and seem as eager to help find the right prop as I am. New prop should be here in a couple weeks. Little league baseball for the month of June. Hoping to get lots of time in on the water after that.

Fallguy - We fish mostly middle coast, from POC to Baffin. I like it all, so where we go depends on what everyone else wants to do (beach, long trip, short trip, see friends, etc).

Still searching for an insurance carrier if anyone has any good advice. Progressive insured it then dropped it shortly after. I've been asking other builders from other states and have heard the same story from them about being dropped by Progressive. Progressive will cover liability only. Have a few leads on carriers I've never heard of that I'll be trying, but after about 30 attempts, have had no luck. Geico/BoatUS used to insure these but has since changed their policy. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Great choice on the prop. Just have to get the pitch correct. Powertech will do you right, great folks. Use them all the time to prop folks boats that I do.

What weight did you give them to calculate the pitch?
