What a fun boat! I restored a 16’ Whaler Sport center console. 70 evinrude, man that thing would fly and really handled rough water.

Getting away from your thread, but can I just jackplate the little Whaler instead of a jet drive? I hear jet drive and I think about the jetski getting a stick stuck in it.. not to mention, don't I need to make a tunnel as well like yours?

Fallguy,

I think you would be fine with just the jack plate. I wouldn't worry about not having a tunnel. I used to run mine in about 16". I really don't see the advantage of a jet drive on a Whaler Sport. With the jet you lose about 15% of HP and without a tunnel you really can't raise it up much higher anyway.

I'd love to see the Skoota!

The land we bought is 0.7 miles in or so off the Packery Channel. But I have lots to do to get a house built there.

Are you going to be on Mustang or Padre Island? Surfside? Canal? Bayside? I'm just across the Oso bay about 4 miles from Packery myself.

fallguy if you can wait for 6 months or so you will be better off. I was talking to my friend a contractor and he is starting to see lumber prices falling. They were up nearly 400% earlier this year. You have a time table to move down to hurricane alley. :D Wishing you the best. :D

Matthew that is one beautiful boat. An 80 mile run on 20 gallons is pretty great. How does she run in a chop?

I have always been surprised by such masters. You are a true talent! If I wanted to go out into the ocean, I always went to my friend in yacht rental near me and rented a boat or yacht, and you did everything yourself, well done. I am proud of such people because to do it all myself. You need to put a lot of effort, for example, to design it all first, make a design, and connect and cut it all; it's challenging. But I'm glad you're doing well, Marshall! I'm waiting for the photos when everything is ready, and there will be a beautiful boat on which you can fish :)
