CCTXF20
Re: CCTXF20
Thanks Jacques but I do not understand the answer. My understanding of your reply is do not cut sections of bottom panels out of one panel or the other until the bottom is fully assembled. Then cut the slot out of the assembled bottom as a whole. Stitch in the tunnel at that point. Is that the proper assembly? Thanks
Re: CCTXF20
The plans I have direct to build the bottom as a unit. Cut in the bottom and transom and tape in the tunnel. 2-3 laps of biax. Then whole bottom, transom and tunnel with 1708.

Re: CCTXF20
I built the tunnel exactly per plan and glued it into the hull.
The process went very smoothly. I was able to support and lift the tunnel with a jack while gluing.
I’ll let it cure a bit and add a bit more wood flour mixture then shape down before tabbing in. The plans call for tabbing in with cut 1708, is this necessary? If I tabbed it in with 12oz, then the seems will be covered with 1708 wide fabric as per the lamination schedule in the plan, would this be sufficient?
The box supported by the jack about 3/4” from it final position. Wood flour/epoxy glue applied.
From underneath, the jack supporting the tunnel box assembly.
You have to cut out a section of mold “F” to make room for the box.
1708 wide fabric days are in the near future.
Build on!

Re: CCTXF20
I believe those are the beefiest fillets I’ve ever seen.
How wide are the sides? Not sure of the scale looking at the pics.
EDIT...
Just read the shorter thread about the fillets. Nice work!

Re: CCTXF20
Jacques calls for a 3” radius fillet. The sides of the tunnel taper from 5 1/4” at it thickest down to 4” at the transom.Dan_Smullen wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 8:57 pm I believe those are the beefiest fillets I’ve ever seen.

Good morning Matt. Mine was taped in with 2 passes of 12 oz and then overlayed with 1708. Same process on the inside when you flip. You still haven’t told me where you and your dad caught the trout. “In the bay....or in the mouth” is not the answer I need. Pete

That’s what I think I’m going to do. I’m going to start shaping the radius to tape over.PeteEdquist wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 7:45 am Good morning Matt. I have seen guys “sharpening” the trailing edge of the transom and tunnel with epoxy/chopped mat, over the taped radius. I wonder just how much this affects performance. I plan on installing trim tabs.
As far as the trout, I’ll tell you exactly where we caught them. About 70 miles due south of you in the southern end of the land cut. Quite the haul for your XF20. Someday, maybe I can show you some spots in your backyard.

Re: CCTXF20
The outside of the hull is glassed. 1708 on the bottom and up above the chine. 12oz biax up to the the shear. Getting close to the quick fair stage. Graphite/epoxy waterline down, awlgrip fighting lady yellow up to the rub rail. I learned from my last build that the epoxy/graphite should be applied directly to the quick fair. It has chipped some from trailering in my D15. I applied the epoxy/graphite over awlgrip primer.

Hey Matthew...I am planning a move to Corpus Christi and also considering the same boat, but maybe with a jackplate on ob, not sure for sure.
Boat is looking good. I plan to fish more out to sea, but awful curious about the inside as well.
I also love bluegill fishin. Not sure if you have any down that way inland or not.

Re: CCTXF20
Matt you don't really square the transom off. You have to leave about an 1/8" radius so paint does not crack when you paint it, or in your case the graphite. But the advantage is that the water does come off cleaner with less disturbance. It really doesn't make a lot of difference in speeds less than 40 though.
