Questions about boat repairs with our resins and fiberglass: hull patches, transoms and stringers, foam, rot etc.

1964 Lone Star Triton

Post by JohnC »

I haven't been on in awhile. This followed me home a few days ago. Lone Star Triton, needs some transom repair (PO already started) and general refurbishing. I will add a couple pictures as soon as I figure out how to do that.

Fun Stuff John!

I had a similar era Texas Maid Skijet 14 with a 58 evinrude 35 on it, ton of fun.
There are only two seasons in Vermont: boating season, and boat-building season.

Completed Paul Butler 14' Clark Fork Drifter
Completed Jacques Mertens FS14LS + 10%, Build Thread
Started Iain Oughtred Tammie Norrie

Life gets in the way sometimes, trying to get back to the Triton. Pictures of the transom and repairs needed. PO started.I have all the aluminum trim pieces for the transom. It already has some sealer (not sure what) on the wood. I am thinking epoxy coat, then drill the holes and epoxy for the screws that mount the aluminum trim pieces and paint for UV protection. This part will be covered by the trim. And then fiberglass repairs to the splashwell and top deck where it was cut to allow for transom replacement. Any thoughts on epoxy and fiberglass? FYI it will be getting n Evinrude 40 two-stroke motor.

Typically, holes in wood are drilled, then overbore 2-3x, then filled with epoxy putty, then sanded if needed, then painted over, then redrilled and screwed with sealant.

Lotsa work, but this is the professional way.

Fallguy1000 that's what I was referring to on drilling/filling epoxy holes. I have seen it on other posts here. Just making sure I have the right idea.
