D15 Questions

Post by Jeff »

This question arrived overnight via email: "I am looking to build the Indian River Skiff 15 (D15). I want to keep the back bench seat, exclude the middle seat, and have a larger front deck. If the space between the back bench seat and the front deck is 5 to 6 foot, will the boat have enough strength? Thanks, Brad" Jeff

That middle part of the seat is very important, you can not omit it but you can move things around. Plan on a maximum of 36" between frames or benches across the hull.
Not more than 3' open.

Would it be possible to build the center deck about 6 to 8 inches high, between the back bench seat and the front deck? This would add support for the center of the boat, and could be self bailing.
Thanks,
Brad

There is a center deck, it is required in this boat but maybe you are thinking of a sole? Yes, you ca do that. The cockpit will be very shallow but it is possible.
