How to build a flush deck lid.

Post by jbo_c »

Would like to build a flush deck lid on my boat for a chain locker. Anybody got a good way to do it so it won’t blow off riding down the road?

I’m sure I’ve seen one, but can’t remember where.

I did 5 of various size and function on my last build. So far they are holding up well.

Yours look great ‘Neko. But the one I want to build doesn’t need to be nearly that good. A simple removable flat face with a finger hole and no hinges would be good. I just can’t figure out how to keep it from blowing off.

Haha. I’ve thought of that. Should probably go ahead and make several so I have backups.

in all seriousness, can you have like one of those bungee cord loops from the inside that kinda pulls it tight to the inside some how. I mean you probably don’t want to lose it underway either.

An inside bungee rig is a good idea. I’ll have to see if I can noodle through that.

This is a slow boat, so losing it underway is less of a concern.

I do want it to be flat, though. It will be on the “lounging area” so need to be able to lay on top of it.

Here is a company that carries both the flush hinges and the flush cam and compression latches and even the door latches you need, jbp. they also have a bunch of othe things that you need to finish out a boat. https://www.boatoutfitters.com/hardware/latches They also have many different flush mount butt hinges https://www.boatoutfitters.com/hardware ... utt-hinges

Hope that helps you out. Probably fancier than what you want to go but the site has all sorts of other things also.
