Is there a difference? Price appears to suggest a distinct difference. Why would you favor one over the other if different? Difference in functionality? Which would be an easier to sand fairing filler?

We've had a few go arounds and the only way to compare is with specific products.
Re: Glass spheres vs microballoons
Not to be a smart aleck, but I’m talking about the two products sold here at BBC. That’s pretty specific isn’t it?

Re: Glass spheres vs microballoons
When used in a fairing mix, I find phenolic microballoons sand more easily than glass spheres.

Re: Glass spheres vs microballoons
My opinion, based on zero facts and only limited experience, is that phenolic microballons, the maroon stuff, is a little heavier than the glass spheres. This corresponds with my theme of building from heavier material to light. I've filled larger valleys with the maroon stuff than I have the glass.
I'm going to look in the West Systems book this evening for specific differences of each.
I've used concoctions of both mixed together, and also add cabosil to keep the goo from sagging.

Re: Glass spheres vs microballoons
i could be wrong (i'm married so it is the norm), but aren't balls solid and balloons hollow? I think there are also size differences as well.
Re: Glass spheres vs microballoons
I think they’re both hollow, but could also be wrong.
I have some microballoons. Today I ordered glass spheres. Will try to do a comparison and report back here. I’m working outside, though, so likely won’t have results until spring.

And I thought MY stuff took a long time to cure!

Re: Glass spheres vs microballoons
The Gospel according to Gougeon Bros. says that glass spheres are lower density that microballoons. “They do not hold a feathered edge, but…much less expensive and may be preferable for larger jobs.”
