Barraman sorry to hear that. I have heard of duds in there early days, but they seem to be worked out now. Sorry they did not work for you.

Would a boat like this benefit from chine flats at all?

I would say no as Jacques has designed it for a specific purpose. The strakes on the bottom act much the same as the chine flats in providing lift.

Ok - I was thinking more as an alternative to the spray rails - which although on paper seem easier to make, I can imagine bending a piece of wood to follow the chine not that much easier than inserting chine rails/ flats which I have seen on some other builds and did not seem so complicated?
