Hydraulic is nice if you want autopilot ever.
Yup, shorten the skeg 2-3'.

Re: DE 27.5
I would definitely look at hydraulic steering for a 27.5' boat with 140HP. The advantages out way the cost, which is not that far over depending on the system you get. A Baystar unit will work for you it is rated to 150HP and comes with 20' hoses. To jump to a Seastar unit costs nearly $600 more but gives you plenty of safety margin on HP, not the 10HP the Baystar gives you. I'm sure there is plenty of safety margin built into the Baystar and would go with it if I was you.

Re: DE 27.5
I think once you’ve had hydraulic steering you’d never have anything else!
Re: DE 27.5
A little more sanding and getting ready to tape the joints. Starting to look more like a boat !

Re: DE 27.5
Looking real good Dennis. A suggestion if I may, get your covering over your shed before you touch a drop of epoxy. Rain and it do not mix. As someone who has built greenhouses leave the sides up from the ground 2-3 feet for ventilation. But leave enough plastic to cover to the ground for winter.
Well that is my $.02 for the day, worth $.01 tomorrow.

Re: DE 27.5
I never know how much knowledge an unknown builder has, so don't think I'm making any assumptions here- don't forget to round over where panels meet, at least a 3/8" radius will allow the glass to follow the panels. A bubble buster roller will help prevent trapped air under the glass.
Your work looks very good up to this point, and thanks for sharing your progress.

Tom,
I pulled the canvas off the tent due to high winds. When I do that, I always cover the boat with a tarp, it's never left exposed to rain.
Concerning rounding over the sharp corners. I already have the front 1/3 of the boat rounded, as soon as I can get the tarp off, the remainder will get rounded. I learned that trick many years ago.
Thanks for the comments

Re: DE 27.5
Is that close to 16 sheets of plywood? 6mm?
Re: DE 27.5
For the bottom and sides I used 3/8" or 9 mm plywood per the plans.
With wise use of scrap and flipping cutoffs I used less than 14 full sheets (actual is ~ 13 1/4 sheets).
Attached photo is where I left it today. All the seams are rounded, getting ready to tape the seams.
