Making progress. Put one coat of glass on the bottom and transom this weekend. Sanded it out this afternoon.

Looking for guidance.

The plans don't call for a drain plug. Should I consider installing one ?

I have had boats with and without drain plugs. I could go either way on this.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Dennis

If you have a bilge at the transom then you will need to drain it. No bilge, no drain. Your choice. Scuppers out the sides would work.

On my C17 I'm putting both, but my boat will probably not self bail except when empty. I'd expect yours to self bail regardless so it's an option you could skip.

Always tricky to decide how to build these. Me, I'd limber the entire boat, lay down plastic, foam the sole, run the limbers to a sealed off dry sump well. Not even wire a pump, but have it on standby. Monitor the sump with a plastic pie eye, or a piece of acrylic bedded into butyl. Then, you know, on a 27 footer, it she's leaking somewhere.

This means no drain plug.

Edit: Assumes plenty of scuppers at sole height! You can also add a wet bilge well along with a dry one.

It sort of depends, you have that big cockpit that will get a lot of rain in it plus the run off from the pilot house. It will need to go some wher.e. So either a drain hole or a pump if your docked or on the water. I would go with an automatic pump as primary and a back up in case the primary failed. If you take to much water on back there you can scuttle the stern. On smaller boats a drain hole works well. The plans for the C19 calls for a drain holl as it is expected to be trailered.
