Trawler 28 engine recommendations (tw28)

Post by MageDK »

Hello all. I’m thinking about starting the build for the 28’ trawler. I am trying to get estimates for royal cost so I am trying to get some recommendations regarding the engine for this boat. I am thinking about 40 hp Diesel engine. I want the boat to have the power it needs to fight through bad weather.
Does anyone have any recommendations in the type of engine I should get?

Thanks

I have seen a lot of people use Yanmar and volvo Penta engines, but I don't have any experience with them myself. Thanks for the recommendation.

Hard to go wrong with either. That Yanmar 40 just won an award for the design. Have no clue on the price, but bet it aint cheap!!!!

There a a number of engines based on a Kubota or Mitshubishi block that are good and cheaper.
Look at the tw28 builds in the Builder's section.

Rob Scott, owner, is a buddy of mine, very good dude and very knowledgeable, may have some interesting thoughts on the topic and can maybe sell you an engine. Worth giving a shout.
There are only two seasons in Vermont: boating season, and boat-building season.

Check with Jeff, Jacques used to sell the diesel and all the parts needed to power the TW28. They may still have the contacts and price it out for you. Will save you a lot of time than you trying to do it yourself.
