Ash or cypress

Getting material for runners for the bottom of my boat.

From what I can find locally, it seems ash and cypress are my best options. (Thought white oak until I read of issues with it not playing well with epoxy.)

Is there a reason I should pick one over the other? Planning to glass either way.

Thanks.

No opinion on ash or cypress but if you prepare it well there don't seem to be any problems with white oak either. My rub rails are white oak that was scarfed together with epoxy then glued on to the boat with epoxy. It was really hard to get them to bend and twist on meaning the scarf and connection to the boat is under a ton of pressure, more than a runner would be. I sanded with 80grit and cleaned with acetone to remove any oil before glueing with gel magic.

Well, the die is cast. I got cypress. Saw the ash suggestion too late.
