Having a little trouble identifying the Sheer on my Trawler 28 build

Post by MageDK »

Afternoon all. I'm starting to build the Jig for my hull and I am going through all the instructions over and over. There is one part that I am having some trouble with.
the instructions say to mark the centerline, baseline and sheer on the molds.

The baseline is marked on the plans, and the centerline is straight forward but I can't seem to figure out where the sheer line is on each section.

I don't see it marked on the plans anywhere and I read the "Self Aligning Jig System" tutorial on the site, but it doesn't mention it.

any help is appreciated.

MageDK the chine is the joint where the bottom and side meet. Here is a glossary for your use in the future. https://www.glen-l.com/resources/glossary.html Tom

Sheer is the bottom edge of the station jigs when the stations are upside down. Does that help or do you need dimensions?

Since the stations include the full cross-section including the pilot house, etc. You basically just cut it off at the edge of the side and that becomes your sheer line?

like this?

Yes. The sheer line on a boat is the top of the sides, so doesn't include any superstructure like a cabin. It will define the lines of the boat when viewed from the side.

I goofed the sheer as described by cape man is correct. I will read your questions more carefully in the future. Tom
