I'm wondering if its possible to add tint to an expoxy primer, notably Interprotect, to turn it black (or dark gray at least) ?
I'm asking becaude my next build will be painted black, but in case of scratches one will see the primer and I'd rather have a black primer instead of white.
Thanks

Re: Tint for primer
I thought they had a dark primer…
The problem with tinting epoxy is comparability. I use a product that creates a “translucent” coloring but as enough is added to make the epoxy fully colored it gets brittle.
I think you could use some epoxy die and be gentle with the color add. Try a few test pots and see how it goes.

Re: Tint for primer
I would use epoxy dye. This is basically resin and you would test it first.
So, buy some dye from Reid and then make a test batch by adding dye to the resin to get the color you want maybe 1 ml at a time to maybe 100 ml of resin and then once you get the desired darkness, mix the colored resin and your catalyst to manufacturers spec. My guess is you’ll be adding 4-5% or maybe up to 10%, but I have no idea.
Anyhow, test to make sure the primer meets the drying times and cures properly. Bottom paints are to be applied to fingerprintable primers.

Re: Tint for primer
Ok, so I understand that epoxy resin dyes are compatible with epoxy primer paints.
I'll test in due time as I have a boat to build in the meantime...
Thanks for your advices
