Springtime FL rendezvous?

Post by JimW »

Does anyone know if Long Point Park is back in order after the hurricanes?

Do we want to try to rendezvous there later in April or May?

I would enjoy going back there. Camping next to your beached (and ready) boat was fun. Finding a park where you can do that is not always easy.

Thoughts?

Jim

I think we woud like to do it at Sebastian Inlet park, but Im not sure.

The park are up and running, all the camping places are packed right now - but by spring it should be better.

About 3 or 4 weeks ago is was still closed. I'll call and see the status and edit this post with the findings.

Just got off the phone with them.

They are partially open now. Won't be taking new reservations until after Dec. 15th. Don't know what the current bookings are. Existing reservations are being honored. Can contact them at 321 952-4533 or 321 952-4532. Should be able to contact someone at one number or the other.

Let's do it!!!!

Ha, I didnt know that was the name of the park on the island! I thought you were talking about a place up in Melbourne.

There are couple good trout flats around that island.

Let's leave this 'til after the holidays and I'll call them then and ask the status for the late spring time. Bring your own shade if you plan to camp, daytime sun is hot and there is no shade trees in the individual camp sites.

I think we had at least 3 or 4 camper parties and quite a few more day users show up two years ago.

How about northern Fla. Ga., or S.C.? Long Point too far away and no shade.

We did NE FL last year and had talked about alternating geographically to keep it fair. Long point park has good pavillions for shade over the rendezvous gathering. Just that campers need to know that the campsites themselves don't have shade. It had the best "camp and boat" situation and didn't limit those who didn't bring a boat.

I want to do it here so we can have a "class" at our shop. Maybe we do the class one day (build a canoe) and the next day have it at the party. By then we should have our resin infusion table going - so we can show vacuum bagging and infusion. We have some misc. fiberglass, wood, and foam core we might have liquidation sale.

How does early March sound?

Early May or late April sound much better for personal reasons. Weather is more likey to be "offshorable" and March is a very heavy bike racing month for me. Races every weekend both days most years. It's usually pretty windy until at least late April.
