C12 sprit rig - details?

Post by karlwms »

I´ve been studying the C12 drawings, and really like the looks and simplicity of the sprit sail rig. But I can´t find good details on the sprit rig on your plans. And although I know the marconi rig, I don´t know enough about sprit rigs to fill in the missing gaps.

If I scale the drawings D224/9 vs. D224/8, it appears the sprit boom is only about one inch wide, vs. 2" for the marconi boom. Also, what is it´s cross-section, still round, or rectangular? Has anyone tried wishbone sprits? What type and size line do I use for the snotter, same as mainsheet? Do the sails you sell come with a line of reefpoints as the drawing shows? Lastly, how are the clew and mainsheet attached? Do I need a second point for the clew, for when reefed? It appeard that there may need to be holes and / or slotted ends provided for this: are there drawings or info available? I´ve already studied your on-line tutorials, (all in all, exceptional!),
but am not finding the answers. Can you help?

Also, FYI, I was trying to browse your bookstore, which boasts 55 books in 12 cataglories. But only about 12 books in 4 cataglories loads. Is there more?

Thanks!

For example, there is no hardware, one uses knots.
We have a HowTo file about the sprit rig. Check the Howto section at this site. It shows how to rig such a sail.

Quote:

If I scale the drawings D224/9 vs. D224/8,

Don´t as Homer Simpson would say! Don´t scale our drawings, there is no need for it, all the dimensions should be there.

Quote:

it appears the sprit boom is only about one inch wide, vs. 2" for the marconi boom.

Do you see what happens with scaling? The sprit sail plan drawing clearly states that the sprit boom diameter is 2". We selected the best and one of them is a book about sailmaking by Marino Milliano: excellent, highly recommended.

[ This message was edited by: jacquesmm on 20-01-2003 11:13 ]
